Description

Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an exceptional individual to lead our Board as Chair. This is a unique opportunity to guide a high-performing Trust at the forefront of healthcare innovation and community service in East London. As Chair, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Trust and ensuring that our commitment to delivering safe, high-quality, and compassionate care is sustained and strengthened.

Homerton Hospital is a modern, friendly, and innovative foundation trust serving the highly diverse communities of Hackney and surrounding areas. As a key provider of acute and community services, we are proud of our reputation for delivering outstanding care, as recognised by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which has rated us as ‘Good’ overall with areas of ‘Outstanding’ care. Our specialist services, including maternity, neonatal, and stroke care, are widely respected, and we are deeply committed to addressing health inequalities and improving population health outcomes.

The Trust has long been a pioneer of integration and place-based partnerships to join up health and care services for local people. Through the City and Hackney Place Partnership the Trust is improving outcomes and reducing inequalities for its local population, working with a range of partners to drive transformation and change. The Trust is part of the North East London Integrated Care System, and is proud to work as part of this wider system to join up care for its communities.

As Chair, you will lead both the Board of Directors and the Council of Governors, ensuring that the Trust's strategy aligns with community needs, national health policies, and long-term sustainability goals. Your role will involve guiding the Trust through a complex healthcare landscape while upholding the values of the NHS, with patient experience and safety at the forefront of all decision-making.

Key responsibilities include providing effective leadership to ensure the Board operates cohesively, promoting strong governance and accountability throughout the Trust, and collaborating with the Chief Executive and Executive Directors to drive strategic direction and performance. Additionally, you will engage with key stakeholders—patients, staff, local communities, and regulators—while advocating for inclusion, equality, and innovation in healthcare delivery.

We are looking for a leader with vision, integrity, and a deep commitment to the NHS values. You should have experience in governance or leadership at board level within a large, complex organisation, and a track record of fostering collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders. An understanding of healthcare challenges and opportunities, particularly within the NHS, will be beneficial. You will also need to demonstrate a passion for public service and an ability to inspire confidence in those you lead.

Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all sections of the community, regardless of age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, race, or religion.

Join us in making a difference to our community’s health and wellbeing
